(July 2, 2026) Writers, editors and photographers from the late 1960s and early 1970s will meet in State College July 14-15, 2026. In keeping with the spirit of our era, the party is free. Make sleeping arrangements on your own.
Just so we know who will attend, please RSVP to either Terry Nau (401-523-6928) or Curt Harler (440-212-1612). As of late June, about 15 people are signed up.
Tuesday, July 14, will be the social half of this two-day reunion. Everyone will gather outside Carnegie Building between 2-3 p.m. Have you visited the historical marker for the Collegian? That’s where we will be. If you are lost or running late, text Terry or Curt.
After some socializing, folks can go check into their hotels and get settled (Warren Patton and Terry Nau are staying at the Nittany Lion Inn – in separate rooms!). The plan is to reconvene en masse at 7 p.m. for a Dutch-treat dinner at Otto’s Pub and Brewery, north of campus at 2235 N. Atherton St.
Wednesday, July 15, is our more structured day. We will gather in Room 103 of Willard Building at 10 a.m. That’s near the Obelisk…which still stands. Former Collegian General Manager Gerry Hamilton and retired Professor Tom Berner will speak to our group. We will have a Q&A with those two, plus a group discussion. Next, we will honor colleagues who have passed on. By 11:30, we move one floor to the Collegian office where current Collegian staffers Tyler Nolt and Grace Levy will give us a tour of the office.
Note that the Collegian office today is located on the second floor of the Donald P. Bellisario Media Center, in Willard. This on-campus location has been their home since 2021, when they moved from the James Building downtown.
Is the copy rim still there? Is there a single-circuit AP machine dinging happily? Do they still use fat orange pencils? Is there even one typewriter in the office?
We will have the Collegian bound issues\morgue files from “back in the day” available for gentle perusal, recalling our Collegian reporting and issues we faced. This likely will evolve or devolve into more discussion and time for reminiscing.
By early afternoon, structured events will be over. People can break into small groups, exchange contact information, shop downtown, or share a late lunch before heading home.
Again, if you have not yet RSVPed, please ping Terry or Curt. See you in Happy Valley!
